“One of the easiest and most obvious things you can do is change the paint color, or even just add an accent wall,” Sommers says.
Like changing the backdrop in a play, it sets the scene.
Emerging colors include the blued greens – teal, forest green and other cooler tones.
“We’re also seeing a lot of cinnamon and paprika – those rich browns,” Sommers says.

On the mantel, switch out decorative pieces seasonally or group like pieces together for a “theme,” they suggest. Heavier, more ornate candleholders have replaced flimsy or minimalist ones.
Also consider changing what hangs over your fireplace. Swap out with another painting from another room, or find seasonal paintings to hang there – sunflowers in summer, a snow scene in winter, for example.
FRESHEN UP WITH FABRIC
Swapping out your burgundy or deep green throw pillows for lighter shades in spring and summer can totally change the feel of a room.
“It’s such an easy fix,” Schell says.
Sommers also suggests reupholstering a sofa, loveseat or chair that you love, but maybe has seen better days. A fresh new fabric will transform it into a whole new piece of furniture.
